Student Opportunities
Students are encouraged to explore their interests beyond the classroom through a variety of enriching extracurricular opportunities. From arts-based activities and performances to clubs, events and hands-on experiences, students build confidence, creativity and collaboration skills in our buildings.
Garden Club
Pre-K and Kindergarten students can participate in our monthly Garden Club during recess where they dive into hands-on nature learning by exploring the life cycle of plants. They plant seeds, track their growth and record progress, developing both curiosity and responsibility. Students also get to sample a variety of fruits and vegetables!
STEAM Celebrations
We love these special opportunities when we get to collaborate with our friends from our partner classrooms each quarter! Our pre-K and Kindergarten students listen to a text and are presented with an exciting challenge that requires us to use the engineering process to solve! We collaboratively share ideas, design a plan, create or build our project, test it out, and share our creations with others!
Coding Day
On this special day, we partner with community and family volunteers to explore fun, age-appropriate coding activities! Early childhood coding helps build foundational skills like problem-solving, sequencing and critical thinking through interactive games, hands-on tasks and simple tools. Our young learners love showing off their coding skills, proving that even the littlest coders can think like programmers!
STEAM Career Showcase
Our students explore different STEAM careers as part of each unit of study. We also invite family members and friends to visit our school and share insights about their exciting STEAM careers! Each spring, our Kindergarten students take it a step further by researching a STEAM career of their choice and presenting their findings to our pre-K students, families and friends, creating a meaningful learning experience for our students.
Field Trips
Field trips bring learning to life. From virtual visits to other countries to explore global traditions, to trips through downtown Fort Wayne to study architecture, students experience learning beyond the classroom. Visits to the art museum build an appreciation for creativity and culture, neighborhood walks highlight community and public art and trips to Johnnie Mae Farm connect students to healthy living and food systems. Each experience is designed to deepen our understanding.
